| Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) is acclaimed as the world’s largest public works programme. The influence of MGNREGS on agriculture, including farming as much as farmers may be analyzed, in terms of three broad dimensions, viz. agricultural labour market, assets created with a bearing on agriculture, and works on the private lands of the poor peasantry; community, especially marginal-small farmers, in terms of changes in their asset position, costs and returns, and overall household income including wage income.Almost after eight year of implementation of MGNREGS, there is a need to assess the impact of NREGS on agriculture based on magnitude of the Scheme and the diversity of the agrarian conditions in India. |
